End Game Chapter 15

Cole ran over to Elysia and hugged her, trying to comfort her.

“Elysia it’s gonna be okay I promise.” Cole said.

“No It won’t! I won’t make it past this level! I’m gonna die here in this dumb game! You guys should just drop my dead weight now!!” Elysia shouted.

“Elysia don’t you dare talk like that! We aren’t leaving you behind! We’ll find a way through this!” I said.

“But-”

“If you tell me to leave you behind again I swear I’ll knock you out and drag you to the village myself.” I said.

Elysia only pulled the blanket tighter around herself. Cole picked her up and we started walking to the village. The haunted torchlights guiding us along the cobblestone path through the graveyard. Cole paused at the sound of movement and we looked around.

“Something wrong Cole?” I asked.

“No I just thought I heard something is all.” Cole replied.

Suddenly something shot out at us from the darkness. A weird specter of some kind, flying around us as more joined it. We were surrounded from above and to add to the problem putrid smelling decomposing hands were rising out of the ground to try and grab us. We quickly took off running, slashing the hands and ghosts as we went. Soon we reached the village to find a well lit “Ye olde” style village. Once within the perimeter the monsters left back to the graveyard. I looked at ELysia to see she had calmed down.

“Oh thank god! Light!” She shouted.

“Don’t get used to it. We still need to find the boss out there in the graveyard.” I told her.

She soon curled back up, cocooning herself in the blanket again.

“Well I guess you’re carrying her for now Cole.” I said.

“Okay but we should hurry and find the boss. I’m sure she wants out of here as much as the rest of us.” Cole said.

“Agreed. Come on fido let’s head out there and do some searching and grinding!” Arytiss said with a grin.

“Not funny Arytiss.” Cole said.

“Come on guys let’s go. And Cole keep Elysia by you at all times. No reason for us to get separated out there.” I said.

“Got it.” Cole said.

We walked back out into the graveyard to grind. As we were walking around we came upon a large section of the graveyard. There were some mausoleums and some old caves too. There were a few rotting corpses walking about outside the caves but they didn’t dare go in. So that was where we went first. We dispatched a few of the monsters and walked into the cave so we could set Elysia down.

Cole set her down and sat next to her. “I’ll keep her company for now. You guys go get some experience.” Cole said.

“Alright. Stay safe you guys.” I said.

We walked back to the graves as the mausoleums opened up and hordes of reanimated corpses walked out along with several cursed souls. We drew our weapons and started fighting to get experience, unaware of what was going on in the cave.

*In the cave*
*Cole’s POV*

We were sitting there, watching the others fight. They were doing pretty good.

“Hey at least you can relax a bit right Elysia?” I said, trying to lighten the mood.

“Yeah I guess…..” Elysia said still hiding in the blanket.

“Well what’s this?” A voice said.

I turned to see some guys standing there with orange icons. Bandits. Before I could react one of them clobbered me and grabbed Elysia. She struggled and screamed as they dragged her into the cave.

“Elysia! Hang on!” I shouted. I quickly ran into the cave after them, following Elysia’s screams before a sudden explosion of energy occurred, launching me back.

I looked at the cave as the others came up behind me, having heard Elysia scream and seeing the explosion.

*Kai’s POV*

We heard Elysia screaming and immediately ran to check on her. Soon after an explosion went off and Cole got shot out of the cave and landed in front of us.

“Cole what happened?!” I asked.

“Some bandit players got her! I went after them but then that explosion happened!” Cole exclaimed.

“Um….guys?....” Zero asked.

“What is it Zero?” I asked looking at him.

He only pointed at the cave entrance and we all looked where he pointed. What we saw amazed us. Elysia stood there, her skin turned gray and the chain connecting her scythe to her body had become jagged and cruel looking. Her hair turning black as a strange energy flowed around her.

“Whoa….what happened?” I asked.

“I-I don’t know…..I felt something latch onto my neck then this happened….” Elysia said.

“Let me see your neck.” Helix asked.

Elysia moved her hair aside so Helix could look. We all saw it. A strange lizard like “tattoo” on her neck and the claws on it appeared to be digging into her skin. We weren’t sure what this thing was but we didn’t get time to wonder.

“Guys I can see!” Elysia exclaimed.

“Well of course. You didn’t go blind.” Arytiss said.

“No I mean I can see in the dark! I can see everything right now! Like it’s not even dark!” Elysia said.

“Like night vision?” I asked.

“Yeah. Come on let’s go get those guys and see what they’re hiding.” Elysia said.

She grinned and ran into the caves and we ran after her. We found the bandits tending to their wounds from the earlier burst of energy.

“B-Boss there’s more of them!” One of them said.

“Crap! Okay plan B boys! Lock ‘em in!” The middle player, presumably their boss said.

The final player pushed a button on the cave wall and suddenly the cave collapsed around us. Leaving, Elysia, Cole, Helix, Arytiss, Zero, and I trapped in a sealed off area. It was only gonna get worse. Suddenly hundreds of monsters spawned in the room. The bandits had set up a monster house.

“Oh hell no.” Arytiss said.

“Elysia see if you and Cole can move some of the debris and get us out of here. Zero, Arytiss, Helix, and I will keep the monsters off of you.” I said.

They both nodded and started moving debris aside.

I drew my sword and started slashing monsters down left and right. As my friends and I fought to survive Elysia and Cole made a hole through the debris.

“Guys we can get out! Come on!” Elysia shouted.

“Alright Elysia you first! Then Cole and the others! I’ll be right behind you guys!” I said.

“So help me if you try to be a hero I’ll kill you!” Elysia shouted.

She climbed out through the hole followed by Cole, Helix and Zero. Arytiss and I were still fighting and slowly inching back towards the exit.

“Arytiss go! I’ll hold them off!” I said.

“Fine but so help me you better hurry!” Arytiss said.

He climbed out and the monsters and I froze as the earth shook at the sound of a blood curdling roar. There was something big down here. Some large monster and it heard us. I could hear it coming towards me. I stood ready but froze again at another sound. The cave walls cracking. It was gonna collapse again.

“Kai get out of there!” Elysia shouted.

“Come on dude hurry!” Arytiss yelled.

I looked and realized the whole cave would fall on them if they didn’t leave and I saw the ground beneath me cracking too. I was losing my footing.

“Guys just go! You’ll get crushed if you don’t leave! I promise I’ll catch up but right now you need to go!” I said.

“Kai I told you not to try this crap! You get your ass out here now!” Elysia shouted.

“There isn’t time! The floor’s gonna collapse on me any minute and you guys are running out of time! Get going now!” I shouted.

Arytiss and Cole looked up and saw that the whole cave was gonna come down. There wasn’t time to argue and they knew that.

“Elysia come on! There’s no time! We’ll come back for him!” Arytiss said as he grabbed her arm and started pulling her back.

“Time to go ELysia!” Cole said as he grabbed her other arm and started pulling her out.

“Don’t you fucking dare!! Kai’s still in there!!” She shouted.

They managed to drag her out and hold her back as the cave collapsed, trapping me inside. I looked down at the floor then at the monsters left to deal with.

“Well…..here goes nothing.” I said.

I drove my sword into the ground and it all crumbled apart. The floor fell to clots of dirt and dust as it fell through, casting me and a few remaining monsters into the depths of the mountain tomb.
