Yesterday had been strange. I survived an airship crash, met a couple of luxray named Spark and Circuit who knew my dad, then I got to meet a rogue named Sherron who seems more interested in me than I would like. After all that happened everyone was worn out and tired, which I didn’t blame them given that they had just survived a crash landing, so we all went to bed soon after and woke up to noises I didn’t want to hear. The rogue alarm was going off again.

I got out of bed and got dressed, then ran out of the room Spark had let me stay in, into the town, and down to the gate where sure enough, Sherron and Spark were talking. I walked up to them to see what was going on.

“Sherron, you don’t normally come down here more than once a month or so. Is there something you need?” Spark asked.

“Not something, more like someone.” Sherron said with a wink at me.

“Of course,” I muttered to myself. “Of course she came here for me.”

“Sherron, I’m not just handing the kid over to you.” Spark said.

“Not even for those special gems?” Sherron asked.

“Wait… you have more of those? I thought the mines ran out of them ages ago.” Spark said.

“Yes well, we don’t use them at all and we have a few lying around. I’ll gladly give you five of those power gems, if you just hand Zero over to me.” Sherron said.

“As much as I would love to have those gems Sherron, I’m not just going to hand Zero to you. I mean do a few power gems really seem like they’re worth it?” Spark asked.

“Ok then. Let’s try it this way. Boys, bring them out.” Sherron said.

A couple of pokeumans, a garchomp and a emboar, were holding two shinxes prisoner. Spark’s eyes widened at the sight of them.

“No. You wouldn’t dare.” Spark said.

“I would and you know it. You want your niece and nephew back, you give us Zero.” Sherron said.

Spark looked like he was fighting a major mental battle. Before I could say anything against the idea something hit me from behind and I blacked out. When I came to I was in a cave lying on my side. I looked around and saw a campfire had been set up and there were a bunch of supplies. I couldn’t see much else beyond that though. I sat up and looked around some more but didn’t see anything different.

“Where am I?” I asked myself.

That’s when I heard what sounded like kids. I looked down a tunnel and realized that’s where it was coming from. I looked down the tunnel and saw two growlithe playing around chasing each other. They seemed happy. I was going to ask them where the exit was when I felt someone looming over me. I turned to see Sherron staring at me.

“Well, look who’s awake.” Sherron said.

I froze up. I knew she was a fire breathing pokemon who was much stronger than I was and I didn’t want to anger her and get burned. I was going to say something when Sherron cut me off.

“Don’t worry. I’m not going to pin you down like your mother did to your father.” Sherron said.

“Wait. Does everyone know about that?” I asked.

“I was watching when your mom tried it on your dad the first time. I was just a kid then but I knew what was going on. I know that I can be forceful and I really do like you but that’s not why I traded them their kids for you.” Sherron said.

“Then why trade them for me? Why do you want me so badly?” I asked.

“Honestly, I need someone to take care of my kids.” Sherron said.

“Excuse me?” I asked.

“I’m dying Zero. I was born with a disease and learned about soon after my dad died. I try to act strong around my kids but the truth is… I’m tired. It’s getting harder and harder to feign like I’m doing alright when really, I feel terrible. I know my time is coming up and, my kids will be without a mother. They already don’t have a father, I don’t want to leave them alone.” Sherron said.

“So you picked me because you wanted someone who you figured could take care of them?” I asked.

“Yes. I don’t want my kids to be alone when I die. They don’t have anyone else here in the rogues who would care for them. So I’ve been looking for someone who would take care of them. I had been considering Spark or Circuit when I met you and realized that you were Glacier’s son. I never knew him myself but I heard stories. About how he fled the island to protect Tesla and I figured, if he was willing to do that, maybe I could get you to do something similar for me.” Sherron said.

“So why go through all this? I mean, why not just ask?” I asked.

“I’m not exactly allowed in the village Zero.” Sherron said.

“You still could have just asked. I’d have probably been more willing.” I said.

“Listen Zero. My kids may ask questions about what’s going on but, I want you to get them out of here. I’ll make sure the guards let you through, I want you to take my kids and leave. If they ask, why I’m not there,” Sherron said as she started to cry. “Tell them, that sometimes, there are things that we can’t stop in this world, and that it happened to me.” Sherron said.

Sherron then broke down crying and leaned on me. I realized now, she was just a mom with little time left and two kids who’d be all alone in this world. For some reason, I felt like I couldn’t just do nothing.

“Sure.” I said.

“What?” Sherron asked.

“I’ll take care of them. Kids shouldn’t just be left alone like this because their parents get sick or something. I’ll help them.” I said.

Sherron grabbed me and pulled me into a hug.

“Thank you Zero. Their names are  Kaze and Maylene. Please take good care of them Zero.” Sherron said.

I hugged Sherron back.

“I will Sherron. I will.” I said.

“Mom? Is something wrong?” A feminine voice asked.

Sherron let go of me and I looked to see the two growlithe looking at us.

“Everything is fine you two. Listen to me, mommy needs to go somewhere soon. I want you to go with Zero here. He’ll take care of you.” Sherron said.

The two kids started to cry and hugged their mom.

“Mom, please. Don’t go.” The girl, Maylene said.

“Mom, don’t leave. We don’t want you to.” Kaze said.

“I’m sorry kids. Mommy has to. I need you to go with Zero. Think of him as your big brother. He’ll take care of you and take you somewhere that’s better than here.” Sherron said.

“Do you have to mommy?” Maylene asked.

“I’m afraid so Maylene. Sorry.” Sherron said.

“When do we get to see you again?” Kaze asked.

“I don’t know Kaze. For now, don’t worry about me. It’s almost time for you to go. Zero will get you out of here alright?” Sherron asked.

“We’ll miss you mommy.” Maylene said.

“I’ll miss you both as well. Just remember that I love you both very much, and stay strong, no matter what, stay strong.” Sherron said.

Sherron hugged them both and I saw she really didn’t want to go. But we both knew there was nothing she could do about it. I felt sadness as well. I knew that I felt similar when I realized my parents were brainwashed. I knew how these kids felt right now. It hurt, but hopefully with time, things would get better. Though I knew it would take a long time and they would never truly forget her.

I looked to see Sherron stop hugging them and looked at me. I knew what she wanted me to do. I knelt down next to her, and Kaze, and Maylene.

“Hey you two. I’m Zero.” I said.

“What’s going on?” Kaze asked, tears still in his eyes.

“Kaze, some things in this world are impossible to avoid.” I said.

“Oh. So then where are we going?” Kaze asked.

“Somewhere safer than here.” I said.

Kaze seemed really upset and I didn’t blame him. He was just a kid and here he was being told that his mother didn’t have much time left and wanted him to live a happy life. I grabbed him and pulled him into a hug and gave Maylene a hug as well. Both of them started crying again and I just held them to try and comfort them as best I could. Soon they stopped crying and I realized they had cried themselves to sleep. I looked at Sherron who nodded and I got up while still carrying Kaze and Maylene. I turned and walked out of the cave to see the rogue camp. It looked decent for a camp out in the middle of nowhere but I wasn’t here for the view. I walked towards the edge of the camp and both the guards looked at me with sad looks.

Clearly Sherron was a well loved leader, and this would upset the entire group of rogues. The guards nodded and let me walk past. I walked through and went into the forest. I soon made it to just outside the village gates and saw it was getting ready to rain. I quickly took off my shirt and wrapped it around Kaze and Maylene to try and keep them dry. Just as I did that it started raining. When it started raining, I realized something. Sherron had died. I felt the rain start to pour down and I let a few tears flow from my eyes. I looked up at the clouds as the rain fell on my face. My parents always told me that sometimes, if a person dies and it begins raining, then the heavens are weeping for them. That’s what was happening here. The heavens were weeping for the death of Sherron, a mother who just wanted her kids to be safe.

I suddenly noticed the sound of the gates opening and I looked to see my friends standing there along with Spark and Circuit who were looking at me, then the two growlithe in my arms. Somehow they knew what was going on and led me inside. I walked back to my room and laid Kaze and Maylene down on the bed, then soon cried until I fell asleep holding them close to my chest. I was now responsible for taking care of two kids who just wanted their mother. As I fell asleep I made a promise.

“I’ll take good care of them Sherron. I promise.”

Then I fell asleep as the last tears fell from my eyes.
So yes, this is a very sad chapter of Fairy Tail 2. I cried as I wrote this chapter but, basically Sherron turns out to be nothing more than a caring mother who simply wants her kids to be safe. How will things change in the future? Find out in the next Fairy Tail 2.
